     Vernon Elliot Smith, son of Glynn Elliott Smith and Sigrid M. Fogelberg, was born on 8 July 1922 at Idaho.1,2

Obituary

Vernon Elliott Smith, 93, Twin Falls, passed away July 9, 2015 at Bridgeview Estates. He was born on July 8, 1922 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Glynn and Sigrid (Fogelberg) Smith.
He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1940 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in November 1942. Vernon was captured by the Germans on August 6, 1944 and remained a POW until the end of the war.
After his service, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1977.
Vernon married Lorayne Orton on June 30, 1946 and remained together until her passing on September 30, 2012.
Vernon enjoyed hunting and fishing; he was also an avid golfer and bowler. He was active in local sportsmen’s groups and The United Methodist Men’s Club.
He is survived by his children; Herbert Smith, Bruce (Joan) Smith, Cecil (Allen) Scherbinske, and Bryan (Rhonda) Smith. He is also survived by a sister, Olive Pettygrove; and 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorayne; and six siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. Reverend Robin Yim will be officiating.2
