Daniel Lott Suydam, husband of Jane W. Van Dyke
     Daniel Lott Suydam, son of Jeromus Suydam and Harriet F. Voorhees, was born on 8 September 1830 at Brooklyn, Kings, New York.3

     Daniel married Jane Wyckoff Van Dyke, daughter of Nicholas Albert Van Dyke and Sarah Hendrick Eldert, on 29 January 1862, at Flatlands, Kings, New York.1,4,3

     Daniel was a prosperous and esteemed resident of Flatlands. He acquired his education in public schools. Through his years, he has been engaged in agricultural interests. Daniel served as commissioner of excise and also as school trustee. The family attended Dutch Reformed church. His political affiliation was Republican. In manner he was plain and unassuming, but was respected by all who knew him for his sterling integrity and honorable principles.3

     Daniel died on 28 August 1910, at age 79,5 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings, New York.6

     Daniel Lott Suydam appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Flatbush, Kings, New York, in the household of his parents, Jeromus and Harriet. He was working as a farmer.7

     Daniel and Jane appeared on the 1892 New York Census of Flatlands, Kings, New York, enumerated 16 February 1892, Their children, Nicholas Van Dyke, Harriet Voorhees and Jerome were listed as living with them.8

     Daniel and Jane appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at Mill Lane, enumerated 12 June 1900 Daniel was working as a farm laborer. Their children, Nicholas Van Dyke, Harriet Voorhees and Jerome were listed as living with them.9

     Daniel and Jane appeared on the 1905 New York Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, at Mill Lane, enumerated 1 June 1905. Daniel was working as a farm laborer. Their children, Nicholas Van Dyke and Jerome were listed as living with them.10

     Daniel and Jane appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, enumerated 21 April 1910. The census indicated Daniel had his own money. Their children, Nicholas Van Dyke and Jerome were listed as living with them.11

D. LOTT SUYDAM

D. Lott Suydam, a retired farmer, and one of the oldest redidents of the Flatlands section of Brooklyn, died yesterday of heart disease at his home, Mill lane and East Fifty-fourth street. He was born 82 years ago in this old fashioned white framed farmhouse, which is more than a hundred years old. General Washington is said to have spent a week there during the Revolution. The Suydams, Vanderveers, Remsens and Kouwenhovens were among the earliest settlers of Flatlands, which has since been cut up into building lots. Funeral services will be held at the residence of Henry Buffett, Mill land and East Fifty-seventh street on Wednesday. Mr. Suydam was a member of the Flatlands Reformed Church. Two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Voorhis and Mrs. Hattie Pollard and eight grandchildren survive Mr. Suydam.
