     Caroline, married Daniel Smith III, son of Daniel Smith Jr. and Hannah Cook, circa 1847.1

     Caroline E. Smith died on 15 November 1852 Caroline E. Smith's headstone has the following peom:

Weep not for me my husband dear, But still remember I lie here. Although cut down in life's full bloom Let not a tear drop on my tomb. Another tie is broke that binds earth's spirits here Another flower hath withered ere closed the dying year. Another home is beaten with waves of sorrow high. Yet Jesus whispers sweetly, 'Be not afraid 'tis I.' Oh trifle not with Jesus, his spirit do not greive (sic) You too must bid farewell to earth your dearest friends must leave. Remember then this voice of death that when for you tis nigh, Soft music notes will float around, 'Be not afraid 'tis I.3'
and was buried at Marion Cemetery, Marion, Washington, Maine.4
